Proper Pallet Construction

Proper Pallet Construction

Postby kentuckychisholm » Thu Jan 22, 2015 8:08 pm

I just thought I'd post this out there for folks who are working on building projects but may find the cost prohibitive. Not all of your lumber has to come from the store or your chainsaw mill (though I do love my chainsaw mill). This is a hybrid timber frame and pallet constructed chicken-shed that I've been working on. I love the idea of taking things discarded and up-cycling them to something beautiful, and I also like doing homestead projects on the cheap. The sill is mortise and tenon framed from locust and maple, the roof is salvaged, and the rest of the lumber is entirely from whole and disassembled pallets. Currently I've got about $30 dollars into this shed in screws and nails, and another $25 in the door hardware that I'm going to hang this weekend. Anyone else building with pallets?

I would love to use pallets but I have yet to find or have the time find a source of pallets. Once I do I plan on making quite a bit of things out of them.

That is quite impressive. Pallet construction is a useful/cost saving skill for sure. Would love to see the finished product when you get there.
